Pakistani carpet exporters are demanding higher tax rebates

The Pakistan association of carpet manufacturers and exporters (PCMEA) has asked the government to impose a 6.5 per cent tax rebate on carpets, like other textiles, in an effort to halt the steady decline in exports of the commodity since 2002. The association said in a statement that the rapid reduction of the tax rebate rate on carpet exports has made it impossible for Pakistani carpets to compete with Indian and Chinese carpets in price. The statement said Indian carpet exporters enjoy an export rebate of 8-10% and that the Chinese government also gives them a large subsidy
